Pause, Listen, Understand Your Gut Feeling #BlogchatterA2Z

Life Is Ocean : Myriad Of Emotions – Today’s Emotion is ‘Understand Gut Feeling’

“Never apologize for trusting your intuition – your brain can play tricks, your heart can blind, but your gut is always right.” Rachel Wolchin

“The more you trust your intuition the more empowered you become, the stronger you become and the happier you become.” Gisele Bundchen

Do you believe in gut feeling? Have you ever experienced an achy, jittery feeling for a specific situation or people you just met? You maybe fail in recognizing the logic behind it; however, back of mind, you are so sure that something is derailing your peace.

Listening to my gut feeling saved me from falling prey to unpleasant consequences, not once, in fact, many times. Be it postponing a travel plan of Florida, a place that later clutched under a Tornado, making public immediate evacuation, or walking away from the scheduled interview.

Be it holding my investment plans even sighting a lucrative option at that time, my friends who flew with the wind still consider the move as the biggest blunder of their life or drawing a line between being reserved or open in any relationships, decision-related to kids or my own life.

In every circumstance, my gut feeling always topped the chart along with the advice of my elders, an expert in the respective field.

Honestly, there was also the moment in my kitty when I stood alone with my gut feeling. Undoubtedly, that present was the bitterest, but later consequences brought a huge sigh of relief for all the family members.

It would be unfair if I forget to mention when I have gone against my gut feeling and really regretted it later, wondering why I didn’t tune in to that inner calling that was screeching within me. Hence I firmly believe that your gut can guide you and help you build your confidence and resilience.

What is Gut Feeling?

Gut Feeling is an instant response that requires no conscious effort. When you listen to your gut and trust your intuition, you connect with yourself on a deeper level. You feel peace within you, between mind and body, and allow for a message to rise from your gut.

What is not Gut Feeling?

Gut feeling is not based on fear; instead, following your instincts will make you feel inspired and excited.  Listen to your inner voice; it never brings fear and ego. If you really sense uncertainty, you probably miss the track of gut feeling!

Ways To Trust Your Gut When Making A Decision

▶️ Understand your real gut reaction:

Dr. Tasha Holland-Kornegay is a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of ‘Wellness In Real Life’ says, “A gut feeling is the result of a huge amount of cognitive processes occurring in your brain, sizing up new sensory information against past experiences and coming to a prediction,”

If any intuition hitting your mind, take a pause, get comfortable from asking yourself, “What does this mean?” or “Where should I start?” “Do I have the right intention?”, “Can I surrender to the outcome?”

▶️ Pay attention to your first thought:

What you sense at the initial stage a positive vibes or negative one. It is similar to the first impression of a person you meet. We take time, observe them, their way of talking, and reciprocating. This makes you more aware of the messages that your gut sends to your brain by acknowledging the first thought. With other tools and factors around the situation, we examine our gut on 360 deg.

▶️ Educate yourself to know the difference between Gut and Bias:

In some circumstances, your gut feeling could be a reflection of your bias. Dr. Tasha Holland-Kornegay is a Licensed Professional Counselor and founder of ‘Wellness In Real Life’ says, “If you experience a spontaneous emotional reaction to a political issue, for instance, then your conclusion may come less from a deep involvement and understanding of the political process and more from what falls in line with your existing beliefs and those of your peers,” she says. “In this way, it’s important to distinguish when coming to a quick conclusion is attractive versus constructive.”

▶️ Use the opportunity safely to practice gut:

Listening to your gut feeling is a skill that refers, practice to get better at it.  The moment you hear the call of gut feeling in any big or small thing, act on, right away.  It stops feeling like you are deciding and get easier to follow your intuition every time.

▶️ Keep A Journal:

“Writing your thoughts and feelings down on paper—even if you ‘think’ you have little to say — helps the nonconscious mind open up,” advises Francis P. Cholle, author of The Intuitive Compass: Why the Best Decisions Balance Reason and Instinct.”

Journaling can be an extremely therapeutic and meditative process. Whenever you feel like having a gut feeling, pick the notebook, pen down your feeling, observe the connection between your feeling and the outcome of opting alternative. See what and how much you gain and lose; both ways, you will come to trust your voice more, allowing you to feel more grounded and make decisions that align with your true self.

According to Antonia Hock, global head of The Ritz-Carlton Leadership Center., “Intuition and instinct kept humans safe for thousands of years, but as we’ve evolved, we’ve learned to lean on data, learned responses, and education in decision making, discrediting our gut as dangerous”.

Following your gut feeling can be an enriching experience that leads to excitement and new experiences. I firmly believe gut feeling never lies! What is your equation with your gut feeling? Do share in the comment box; I hear you!!
